Heebie-jeebies – Back to school

Back-to-school season can be challenging for everyone, especially for kids starting school for the first time, moving into a new grade, or attending a different school. Here are some simple techniques you can use to help your child adjust and thrive:

1. Talk about what to expect: Kids often feel more comfortable and confident when they know what to expect in a new situation.
2. Make a plan: If your child is struggling with anxiety about a new situation, sit down with them and help them devise a plan to cope.
3. Keep track of progress: Help your child keep track of their progress in adjusting to the new situation. This can be as simple as making a checklist or keeping a daily journal.
4. Encourage positive self-talk: Help your child reframe their thoughts about the new situation using positive self-talk.
5. Realize that you don’t know everything: It’s okay to admit that you don’t have all the answers to your child’s questions. This shows that you’re open to learning along with them.
