The Most Exciting Activities of Coding Classes for Kids

These days, kids only participate in extracurricular activities when they’re truly interested in them. The pressure of studying and doing well in school is already insurmountable. This can be a good thing, as it allows them to focus on their studies and develop their passions. However, it can also lead to kids feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.

In the best interest of the young inquisitive minds, We at SkoolOfCode design specific coding courses for kids, tailored to their needs and interests. This way, they can learn valuable coding skills while still enjoying their hobbies and activities. Here are some of our most exciting activities of coding classes for kids, I would like to take you through this journey of my experience as a teacher.

The Most Exciting Activities Of Coding Classes For Kids

Creating GIF images

When I work with very young kids, between the age bracket 5 to 7, I find that they are in the exploratory mode. If I talk about Digital Art, the kids get excited when they create their GIF files. That is the first glimpse of animation they get and they just love it. Creating GIF files is a great way for kids to learn the basics of animation. They can experiment with different colours, shapes, and sizes to create their own unique designs.

The Name Animation

When I introduce Scratch to them, they start enjoying building code using blocks. But the most exciting part for them is creating animations like the “Name Animation” and “My Neighbourhood”. In the “Name Animation”, they just love watching the alphabets spinning and rolling and twisting and dancing in front of their eyes, whenever they click on them. Also, they enjoy doing ‘My Neighbourhood’. They feel connected to it as they introduce their neighbourhood to the audience.

The cookie world

Games are a great way to engage kids and get them excited about learning. By combining games with coding, we can give them the best of both worlds. In our scratch courses, kids create their own simple games using game design courses. They learn how to control characters, create backgrounds, and add sound effects. Not only are they having fun, but they’re also gaining important coding skills that will help them in the future. The cookie world is a one of the favourites among kids learning to build basic games.

The Screen Scrolling Games

They like creating Treasure Hunt and Flappy Bird, as they learn the screen scrolling concept. They understand that any screen scrolling game can be created using these concepts.

If your kid loves video games and wants to learn how to create them, our pro gaming course is a perfect choice. Here, they’ll learn everything they need to know about designing characters and levels, as well as coding the game logic so that everything works together seamlessly. Whether they want to make classic games like “Multiplayer Ping pong” or “space attack” to more complex screen scrolling games like “Treasure hunt” or “car racing”, this course will equip them with the skills and knowledge they need and combine the passion for gaming with their interest in coding and creation.

Science Models

Some kids also enjoy building Science Models like Water Cycle and ecosystems. Learning about nature and science through animation is a refreshing way to learn.

The space invader app

All of us use Apps nowadays. It’s so useful to get something at the click of a button. Our life is revolving around these Applications. In our MIT App Inventor course, our children learn about creating their Apps. Isn’t it exciting to create your own App and use it or flaunt it to your friends?

Moreover, it’s fun to create interactive smartphone games like Space Invader which you can play. We also create a multiscreen coloured app that communicates with a camera and a GPS.

Rock Paper Scissor in Python

When kids come to text-based coding, the world for kids becomes black and white. They have to delve into the fundamentals of Python and Java.

To make this world interesting for them, we introduce them to engaging games like Guess the Number, Hangman and Rock Paper Scissor. Then in the Gaming module, we introduce them to games like Fidget Spinner, Snake Game and Turtle Race. They love creating graphical games. In this process, they also acknowledge the strength of coding.
