G34-5 Intro to Robotics with MakeCode & Microbit

Grades 1–3

Introduction

Create images, animations, and games while you explore the real world with Microbit sensors such as Accelerometer, light sensor, and Magnetometer.

What Your Child Will Learn

Course Content

* What is a Microbit and its supporting programming languages. * User interface design of MakeCode to code Microbit. * Writing programs in MakeCode and downloading code on Microbit.
* Code programmable buttons on Microbit * Variables, mathematical operators, and randomization of numbers. * Display numbers on Microbit LED grid.
* Events and loops to display animations on Microbit LED grid. * Use of “pause” block to control the speed of changing the LED output. * Games with animations, images, and conditional decision-making.
* Microbit LED grid coordinate system. * Nested loops
* Learn to use game blocks in MakeCode to code games for Microbit. * Practice loops, random blocks, variables, mathematical and boolean operators.
* Understand that Microbit LEDs can be used as a light sensor, measuring the amount of light falling on them. * Learn to sense light levels and then use them to build interesting applications.
* Learn to use the accelerometer sensor to detect gestures such as free fall, tilt, shaking, etc. * Learn to sense any other motion on Microbit.
* Learn how to use the Bluetooth extensions in Make code. * Learn how to pair their phone with the Microbit. * Controlling Microbit with Smartphone
* Learn to use Microbit inbuilt speaker * Use Microphone for interesting applications. * Learn to code microbit for responding to sounds such as clapping
* Learn about Microbit's built-in magnetometer sensor. * Learn to use this sensor to detect the magnetic force around Microbit and code Microbit to create many useful applications.
* Learn about Microbit's built-in temperature sensor. * Learn to use Microbit to take temperature readings.
* Create a real-time application of the Microbit accelerometer. * Take readings/make observation chart to use real-time sensor values in the application made.
