AI and ML

How is AI programming different from traditional programming ?
In traditional programming, the programmer writes a set of rules or instructions for the computer to follow. However, in AI programming, the programmer provides the computer with data and lets the computer figure out the rules or instructions for itself. This is done by using algorithms.
Algorithms are basically a set of rules or instructions that are followed in order to solve a problem.
Machine learning is a subset of AI that deals with the ability of machines to learn from data and improve their performance over time. Machine learning algorithms are used to automatically find patterns in data and then use those patterns to make predictions.
For e.g. Consider a simple problem where you need to train a machine to play soccer. Now going through traditional programming, the process will be something like this:
The programmer will first write a set of rules or instructions required for let’s say how to kick the ball. The instructions need to be like the player has to lift his leg at certain angles, apply a certain range of force, and then hit the ball. This process will go on and the programmer has to include all the possible scenarios according to his expertise. The program in this case will be too complex and there is a possibility of missing certain scenarios.
On the other hand, in AI programming, the programmer will provide the machine with data (of people playing soccer) and let it figure out the rules or instructions for itself. The machine will use algorithms to automatically find patterns in data and then use those patterns to make predictions.
For example, in our example above, the machine will learn from data (of people playing soccer) and figure out how to kick the ball. Based on these patterns, the computer tries to play soccer. As it plays more and more games, it gets better at playing soccer. This is because it is able to learn from its experiences and improve. This process is much simpler and more efficient than traditional programming.

Some popular examples of strong AI are IBM Watson, Google DeepMind, and Microsoft Azure. The types of ML are Supervised learning- Unsupervised learning- Reinforcement learning.
Supervised learning is where the data is ‘labeled’ and the algorithm learns from this to make predictions.
Unsupervised learning is where the data is not labeled and the algorithm has to find some structure in it.
Reinforcement learning is where an agent learns by trial and error and is given feedback after each iteration.
